This activity addresses critical gaps in oncology care across the continuum—from diagnosis through survivorship—by focusing on fertility preservation, survivorship-related sexual health, clinician burnout, and integrative approaches to mental health. Faculty highlight evidence-based guidelines (NCCN, ASCO, ONS) and real-world data demonstrating unmet needs, including insufficient patient education on fertility risks, persistent sexual dysfunction in survivors, and the high prevalence of burnout driven largely by systemic factors. It underscores the importance of early intervention, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered communication, while also exploring mindfulness and integrative therapies to improve both patient and provider well-being. Collectively, these strategies aim to enhance quality of life, clinical decision-making, and care delivery in oncology settings.

Objectives

After participating in this activity, learners should be better able to:

Apply evidence-based guidelines (e.g., NCCN, ASCO, ONS) to incorporate timely fertility preservation discussions and referrals into oncology care for reproductive-age patients.
Evaluate and manage survivorship-related sexual health and psychosocial complications, including vaginal symptoms, intimacy concerns, and menopausal effects, using appropriate non-hormonal and supportive interventions.
Identify key contributors to clinician burnout, including structural and individual factors, and implement evidence-based strategies (e.g., mindfulness, communication training, peer support) to mitigate its impact on clinical practice.
Integrate evidence-based complementary therapies (e.g., mindfulness, yoga, acupuncture, music therapy) into care plans to address anxiety and depression in patients with cancer across the disease continuum.
Enhance interprofessional collaboration and documentation practices to improve patient education, shared decision-making, and overall quality of oncology care.

Target Audience

This interprofessional activity is designed for physicians, advanced practice registered nurses, oncology nurses, physician associates, pharmacists, and professionals in training from these disciplines to build a stronger collaborative partnership with other members of the cancer care team as well as oncology specialists.
